Dear partners
My name is Alexandros Xafopoulos (A'leksanðros Ksa'fopulos) and I was born in Greece.
First of all, regarding education, since last year I am a campus-based MA student in Education and Technology at the UCL Institute of Education (IOE). I am also an Informatics & Theology graduate of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh). The reason I chose my current study is that education & technology are pervasive in the late modern world and play a crucial role in a qualitative personal and societal well-being.
Second, as regards working experience, I am working as a supply TA and as a secondary Mathematics private tutor in Greater London. I have also worked as TIMSS Marker and UCL Advances Summer Intern at a community charity, West Euston Partnership. Moreover, I have been a Volunteer Tutor for charities in, mainly secondary, Mathematics. In the past I worked as a Researcher-Programmer in 2 EU funded R&D projects and, secondarily, as a Web and Unix Administrator at the Artificial Intelligence & Information Analysis (AIIA) laboratory of AUTh.
Third, regarding my experience with Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) I have been engaged in several environments and activities as an undergraduate and postgraduate student, such as, the virtual learning environments (VLEs) Moodle and Blackboard, the creation of Wordpress blogs, a Padlet e-portfolio, Powerpoint and Prezi presentations, the construction of mind maps, the participation in forums, wikis, and social networks, and generally the use of interactive and multimedia Web 2.0 tools.
Fourth, with regard to academic experience, I was an academic assistant at the School of Informatics of AUTh and a visiting researcher at the Tampere International Center for Signal Processing (TICSP) in Tampere, Finland.
Fifth, with respect to social experience, I am volunteering in UCL related projects and lead the Secondary Maths Tutoring Project (SMTP). I also served as a signals soldier at the Hellenic Army.
Sixth, my portfolio includes 7 publications, 1 book chapter, 2 journal, and 4 conference peer-reviewed papers, as well as 3 conference presentations and 2 academic seminar talks with about 80 citations. As for my developing research interests they lie in the areas of Educational Technology, Learning Design, and Computer Supported Collaborative Learning. My linguistic capacity includes Greek, English and German.
Seventh, my interests-activities include mental and physical exercise, blended learning & teaching, meeting and collaborating with people, country excursions, and mindful prayer.
Eighth, you may find more information about me, and are welcome to connect to or follow, at my
-Researchgate profile, including publications, thesis and invited seminar talks,
-Academia.edu profile, including drafts, and
-Twitter profile (@lxndrOC), including recent & past personal activities.
Ninth, you are welcome to contact me through moodle, email, or skype.
Finally, tenth, I wish everyone an enjoyable, productive, and successful academic year and experience.
All the very best,
+Alexandroc
