Conflict, from the Latin 'conflictus', is a state of disagreement or disharmony between individuals or ideas.

The story of humankind is littered with conflicts of all types. Whether we are battling against the deadly phenomena of the physical world or arguing with each other about socio-cultural differences, the fact remains: we are always fighting for something. But while they are often portrayed in a negative light, associated with violence, conflicts also represent a gateway to new ideas, rights and innovations. They have enabled us to redefine the way we think about the world and our society. The battle for change is one that has shaped our past and conflicted objects will continue to argue their way through history.

While they may seem unrelated, all the objects of this exhibition share a degree of discord which ultimately binds them together in this collection. Thus we reflect on each object in this way: What conflict does it represent? What is the object itself? What is its relevance?
